A Muslim who Preys

By: Nader

So, this will be a short blog post. I received an email from a sister with an urgent concern. She has evidence that a certain brother uses the internet to prey on innocent women.

I have not personally seen the evidence, so I will not be sharing any names, although, I do believe the sister and what she says.

Nevertheless, it is an important topic that cannot be ignored. We are on Twitter throughout the day and come into contact with many individuals of the opposite sex. For the most part, it seems to be cordial and beneficial. Sisters need to be especially vigilant. Many innocent women want to change for the better (like men), and follow people who provide beneficial Islamic reminders that may come in handy during their day as a source of good.

That’s well and dandy but we need to be aware of our surroundings. Just because Twitter is a virtual platform, doesn’t mean that it is OK to let our guard down.

If a brother who looks the part, and you know what I mean, but doesn’t act the part then I think it’s safe to say he isn’t legit. You see, these smooth talkers who hide behind religion only to use it to prey on women are cowards and most likely losers in their “real” lives. They sit behind a computer screen hoping to catch their next big fish. Don’t take the bait. If this “religious” brother asks you to become his friend on Facebook to check out his love of photography, be careful. If he then asks you to chat with him on Skype, reject it. What these kinds of people do, is slowly but methodically lure you into their trap. Before you know it, you’ll be sitting in front of your computer screen in the nude for his sick viewing pleasure.

Don’t let yourself go down this path. They will trick you into thinking they are seeking marriage and it is “Halal” for them to see all of you. If the brother is truly a religious person, he won’t ask you for pictures in the first place. Believe me, if they are doing this with you, they are doing this with many other innocent women.

Besides, if you are truly seeking marriage, you want a brother who prays, not one who preys.

  1. I had to look up for your twitter profile on Google, conducive to finding out if this blog’s substance really is reverse psychology or I was the only one confused. (Inferring from comments). Finally, I found out you are BS in reverse psychology. I had however been randomly following you on twitter, without ever realizing though.
    Keep it up.

  2. I like your post here! I agree with alot of what’s been said but unfortunately sometimes warning young girls doesn’t seem to be enough to help educate them of the corruption that can go on online. That’s why I’ve created an ongoing post on my blog called DATE – A – ROAMING: it’s comical and I intend for it to addresses the reality of this problem of men preying on to girls online in a more non conventional way of giving advice. Hopefully what they read will help them realise this concern for themselves! You can check it out on fridayscircle.com! Keep up the good work!

  4. wow this is a great post….I’ve also been hearing about such stories from females who talk to me. its scary stuff…Girls are very vulnerable and desperate at times…they too should not be talking to men like this. Ladies, use your brain sometimes and tell someone about the person who ‘might want to marry you’. They can help

    JasakAllahKhair for the post!

  6. Masha Allah Brother you have raised a very peculiar issue that is going around these days. We should all behave like Moslems whether we are on internet or any where else. However, I would like to point out one important thing that it is not the “innocent women” that you should have used because the women who get involved in these livid acts can’t be called innocent in any way. The righteous women are granted with the wisdom and the sense of differentiation between right and wrong by Allah. We should rather say that everyone should be very careful whether it be man or a woman while interacting on social networking sites because Satan (The Devil) is not far from us. May Allah Guide us all to the Righteousness and to the Path that leads to Jannah… Ameeen

  9. Ha! I first read the title as ‘a muslim who prays’, LOL

Nice post, Nader. Indeed, some women are very naive in this field and might tend to believe almost everything a guy might say to them on the internet.

  12. As Salaamu alaikum…First off, I want to thank brother Nader for sharing this beneficial information. It is really a good warning to all. May Allah swt reward you for this effort. Keep up your good work brother and you are using the internet as a good tool to spread Islam to the ummah.

Sister Farhana, I think a muslim man who would do such thing has some mental illness or disorder (sex maniac). If he would portray himself as bad, who would accept him as a friend in d first place? The internet his easy tool to meet innocent n gullible sisters. We as women, are often attracted to men who r pious n we all dream of marrying such a man. We also know that most youngsters nowadays often look for someone to chat on the internet out of boredom. The most impt thing to keep in mind is to adhere to the hijab rules in d internet.

The simple lesson here in brother Nader’s blog is not all that appears gold is gold- it can be a rusty iron inside…We need to keep guard n be vigilant. Now that we have some warning, we will be able to avoid this incidents in the future, Jazak Allah khair.

  13. This is a great blog that should be veered more for those bros who prey. Nice to see how you think about it, but do u think ur sometimes like the ‘guys’ you describe… One who hides behind a computer screen? I feel as if u barely tweet about life and all you think about is religion, but is that how u really are?

    1. Hi Dania. I’m not sure what you mean exactly. Are you asking me if I “prey” on innocent women? If that was my intent, I surely wouldn’t have written a post about the importance of avoiding getting into situations like the one described above. If you are asking me if I am truly religious? I’d like to think I try my best. I’m not perfect by any means and do have a bunch of flaws like everyone else, but I sincerely try. Moreover, I do tweet a lot about Islam because it is my life. I cannot separate the two. My tweets are a reminder to me first and foremost. I don’t tell anyone how to live their life. They are just reminders for anyone willing to take them. Again, thank you for your comment. Take care.

    2. Assalamualaikum.
      Thats very straightforward. Nice !
I know a guy on facebook, who’s been through it all. He is somewhat religious, and I was attracted to him. He’s posted loads of cool reminders to his FB friends, and they were all pretty nice, cause he draws, so the posts he shares are very interesting. But “fitnah” is everywhere.
One time, a dude commented on his wall about how he flirts with all of his female FB friends, and how he uses Islam as a medium for him to right his wrongs. The dude claimed that he’s been stalking him and knows everything about him.
I dont know the truth, but knowing this guy, he’s been great. And he’s done great work too to spread Islam. What I’m trying to say is, even if BONSAISKY is one of those, which I’m not saying he is, what he’s done here is a great work. And so, I’d say pick the good things about these guys, and leave the rest.
But still, I cant picture a girl who looks for a religious guy to learn something from him, would give up her honor to this religious guy. I mean, she’s obviously looking for ways to better herself, so Allah would certainly guide her way.
But the brother’s right. You cant let ur guard down. You may befriend them, and try to pick up some of their knowledge, but be alert.
